About Us...

Youth Helping Youth's Mandate and Mission

The Youth Helping Youth's mission is to provide artistic knowledge and opportunity with experiential learning and mentoring opportunities. It is our mandate to ensure the transference and revitalization of traditional knowledge in an artistic venue to help heal and reconnect our 'at risk' people.

The Youth Helping Youth Mentorship Program serves as an artistic hub that is working hard to foster a new generation of artists through mentorship, demonstrations, workshops, tutorials and traditional art kit learning resources. We also seek elder instructors, artist collaborators and public participation opportunities within the shop and at community events.

Moreover, our "Gitxsan Art Toolkit" learning resources are a direct result of community members, teachers, artisans and youth requesting our assistance in making available how-to's that can be learned within the home, workshop or classroom environment. These projects required the collaborated talents of Gitxsan Artists, Carpenters, Media-artists and painters.

Please contact us if you are interested in attending one of our workshops or if you have an idea for a new art process or kit project. We are always interested in developing new works or in learning new processes to share with others.

Note: The Youth Helping Youth gallery, kits, workshops and tutorials are comprised of our Gitxsan Traditional heritage objects such as totem poles, masks, bent-boxes, drums and paddles, etc

Please bookmark this site and check back often. This website is a reference and learning tool for artisans and educators in the quest to learn and share artistic knowledge as we believe this is the fundamental right of all our people.

We welcome opportunities for the collector to make an acquisition from our beautiful collection - for both the Gitxsan and Contemporary works. Consider commission opportunities and custom work that is available to you. Shipping is available around the world.

If you have any questions, comments, corrections or helpful additions to the written content of our website, we welcome your input.

Interested in the our upcoming 'Resin-casting, button-blanket, drum-making, or tumpline weaving' Workshops? Sign up using this application form. Please ensure that you fill out all required information.
